The 8th edition of IICEC International Energy and Climate Forum organized annually by Sabanci University Istanbul International Energy and Climate Center (IICEC) is being held in Istanbul today. The opening of meeting is happening with participation of energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak.
Dr. Fatih Birol, president of International Energy Agency, announced a pleasant development of solar energy in his opening speech at meeting. Noting that solar energy costs have decreased by half in recent years, Birol said, "from 2017 to 2020, we anticipate that cost of solar energy will be halved again. Solar energy is increasingly cheaper, renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly widespread. It is also widespread for economic reasons, not for environmental reasons, "he said.

"As International Energy Agency, we published our report of renewable energy investments last week," said Birol, where solar energy is progressing with giant steps. Very interesting results came up. These are not estimates, but developments... More than 50 percent of all new plants established in world in 2016 were solar power plants. Less than 50 percent of coal plus gas plus oil plus or sources like wind. That is, solar power plants are more than 50 percent of newly established plants in world, "he said.
